Riverside, Calif. – Oregon State junior Kara Hallockplaced second in the heptathlon on Friday at the UC Riverside Spring Classic Invitational. Freshman teammate Saskia McNairy took 10th place at the same event; both athletes set personal-bests.

The heptathlon is a seven-event competition featuring the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200 meters, long jump, javelin and 800 meters. The first four events were held on Thursday, the final three on Friday.A graduate of Lebanon High School who transferred to OSU this year after two seasons at Lane Community College, Hallock scored 5,000 points, the third-best performance in school history.Her mark in the long jump (18-7.75) was the fifth-best in school history and was second in the competition. She was also second in the hurdles and 800 meters, and third in the high jump.McNairy, from Lakeridge High School in Lake Oswego, scored 4,270 points, sixth-best all-time. She won the javelin portion of the event with a throw of 123-10.The remaining Beavers will compete at the annual Willamette University Invitational on Saturday, starting at 9:30 a.m. at the Charles Bowles Track, located at McCulloch Stadium in Bush’s Pasture Park, near the intersection of Mission and Winter streets in Salem.
